Upcycling and handcrafted fabrics are the biggest trend in fashion right now, highlighted by Marques' Almeida in their Fall21 ready to wear collection. Their collection focused on using muted natural dyes with a 90's grunge influence.
Marques Almeida took the opportunity, forced on them through the Covid pandemic and enforced slow down, to pause and take time to re-evaluate their place in the fashion industry.
We always want to be super aspirational. There’s a whole side of fashion that’s supposed to make you feel good, which is really important, but I think people are yearning for more than that now, for a bit of substance, for a bit of soul,” reflects Marques. “I see that perhaps as being the role of fashion for the next five or 10 years. It seems radical, but actually, if lots of people do it for a while, it will just become the norm.

Their new collection showcased a palette of muted natural dyes, created from remnants of onion peels, plant roots and wood. Focusing on sustainability they have upcycled and recycled throughout the collection.
