Ikat is always a key ethnic look, but we're seeing ikat effects used on a variety of print looks this season. The blurred technique is being used on florals, paisleys and ornate looks creating a more abstract, contemporary feel.
Jason Wu and Drie's Van Noten's collections are great examples. The ikat effects have given their floral prints a modern and sophisticated look. Hot pink is a key colour, combined with black and white.
The combination of ochre and purple creates a dramatic look, both key colours for AW. The ikat effect and use of tonal colour in the Drie's Van Noten collection creates a contemporary look on traditional tapestry patterns.
Christian Dior's Fall collection uses the blurred ikat effects giving their floral designs a distorted, feminine look. A softer approach of colour combining, olive green, softer pinks and chocolate tones.
We're also seeing the ikat effect in Interior designs. Black Edition by Romo have combined it with their digital looking florals and geometrics.
